List of authorised additives
3.2.1 The Directive 2002/72/EC [A29] states:
Article 3a
An incomplete list of additives, which may be used for the manufacture of plastic materials and articles, together with the
restrictions and/or modifications on their use, is set out in Annex III, Sections A and B.
"Additives" are substances added to polymers ("Category I") or to the polymerisation
medium (so called "Polymer production aids") to achieve a technical effect ("Category II").
In order to assist the petitioner in the request for an authorisation, the Commission has
prepared the following indicative list of types of substance falling into the definition of
"additives", grouped in the two Categories.
"Category I"
"
Additive" means a substance which is incorporated into plastics to achieve a technical effect in the finished
product; they are intended to be present in the finished articles."
