1.Summary
Diffusion modelling in food contact materials is one of the means to verify compliance
with the specific migration limits mentioned in Directive 2002/72/EC related to
plastics intended to come into contact with foodstuffs and to estimate the exposure of
the consumer to the migrants from the packaging. The scientific background of the
model and its use have been inserted in a document "Practical Guide" to help
stakeholders in the application of the EU Directive. New data has been published in
the last years in the field and they should be collected in a standardised format and
analysed in order to verify the adequacy of the model as well as its extension to other
substances or materials, including multilayers which are excluded from the present
model.
